37 die, 2,031 recover in 24 hours
Thirty-seven people have died from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.
The death toll now stands at 1,582 and the death rate at 1.29 percent, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, said during a briefing.
Three thousand four hundred and sixty-two people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With this the current infection rate is 21.07 percent and the total number of infections in the country is 1,22,660.
Bangladesh is now the 17th worst affected country in terms of the number of cases. It remains one step ahead of South Africa and one step behind France, according to worldometer.info.
A total of 16,433 samples were tested in 66 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.
A total of 749 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added.
Among the deceased, 28 were male and nine female while 10 were from Dhaka, nine from Chattogram, six from Rajshahi, seven from Khulna, three from Mymensingh, one from Barishal and another was from Rangpur division.
Of them, one was between 11-20 years old, two between 21-30, two within 31-40, three within 41-50, 12 within 51-60, nine between 61-70 and the rest were 71-80 years old, Dr Nasima also said.
