Court unhappy at slow progress in Sagar-Runi murder probe

Voicing its frustration at the slow progress in the probe into the journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case, a court here on Thursday asked the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) to speed up the investigation.

The court directed the elite force which is the investigating agency of the murder to immediately record the statements of slain couple’s only son Mahir Sarowar Megh, and Runi’s mother and brother, and produce them before it for recording their depositions as witnesses.

The court also asked the investigation officer to seize mobile sets of security guards of the house where the journalist couple used to live and quiz their colleagues to gather information about the murder.

Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey came up with the orders when Rab assistant director (investigation and forensic) M Wares Ali Miah, also the IO of the case, submitted a progress report to the court.

In the progress report, the IO said they received the DNA test reports of the accused from the US, saying they were reviewing the reports and they need more time in this regard.

After the hearing, the court asked the Rab official to submit another probe report by November 2 next.

Sagar Sarowar, news editor of private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed at their rented flat in the capital’s West Rajabazar on February 11, 2012. – See more at: http://www.unb.com.bd/sagar-runi-court#sthash.9qi40ehI.dpuf
