Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the country will never be safe in the hands of BNP chief Khaleda Zia as she is surrounded by anti-liberation forces who are nothing but poisonous snakes.
”Khaleda Zia plays with snakes. She’s roaming with snakes over her head who had killed intellectuals, oppressed women and carried out massacres during the country’s Liberation War. So, the country is not safe in your (Khaleda) hands,” she said.
The prime minister was addressing a mammoth public meeting organised by Mymensingh district Awami League at Circuit House maidan (field).
Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, said: “The people of the country want peace… they don’t want Bangladesh to return to militancy and terrorism. Peace won’t come through BNP… it had made the country a haven of militants and terrorists during its rule.”
The premier went on: “Bangladesh is no longer known abroad as a militant state. Instead, it’s established as a model of development. Whenever Awami League comes to power, it earns fame for the country internationally.”
Posing a question to Khaleda Zia, Hasina said, “What will you give the country as you’ve made hundreds of crores of taka from a broken suitcase and torn-vest?”
BNP cannot do anything for the people of the country as their main virtue is killing people and indulge in corruption. They can only promote corruption, looting and money laundering, Hasina observed.
She said the aim of Awami League is to carry out massive development activities in every area of the country. “We want to make Mymensingh as an education city for spreading out education fast.”
Terming Mymensingh an ancient town, Hasina promised to upgrade it to a city if her party is voted to power again.
Hasina also declared that Tarakandi will be upgraded to an upazila immediately.
Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque, State Minister for Health Mozibur Rahman Fakir, Awami League organising secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Mymensingh district administrator Zahirul Haque advocate, among others, addressed the rally held with Principal Matiur Rahman in the chair.
