BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday alleged that the incumbent government has been pushing the country towards a darkness of incivility.
“The illegal government has been issuing certificates of despotism to ruling party men. They are plunging the country into a darkness of incivility,” she said in a press statement.
The BNP chief claimed that citizens were concerned as lawlessness was prevailing in the country.
“The ruling party men have created a chaotic situation in the country through their despotism and unruly behaviour under direct patronage from the ruling party. Shameless partisanship and misuse of administration and law enforcement agencies have not kept any space of normal operation in those organisations,” she said.
Khaleda alleged that even after that, Awami League criminals were attacking administration officials and police personnel.
“Government officials have been victims of Awami League leaders and activists’ harassments when they declined to carry out their [AL men’s] illegal orders and illogical demands. Field-level administration’s situation has turned dreadful.”
Khaleda then referred to an incident in Feni’s Parshuram upazila where a UNO was injured and harassed by ruling party men.
“It has proved how risky and impossible it has become to work fairly for the government officials. This sort of incidents are happening regularly,” she said.
The BNP chief alleged that death row convicts were being released and committing new crimes when countless opposition leaders and activists were being harassed with false cases.
Khaleda condemned the attack on Parshuram UNO and demanded trial of the perpetrators.
“I think establishing a democratic government that represents the people through an inclusive and competitive election could end the current corrupt, misruling, despotic and chaotic state of the country,” the statement read.
