Forty-five districts out of 64 are now under total lockdown as a part of the government’s measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Besides, 15 other districts are locked down partially, according to data on a government website — corona.gov.bd — which provides updates and analyses on coronavirus pandemic daily.

However, only four districts — Rangamati, Jhenaidah, Magura and Meherpur — and 104 upazilas are still out of the lockdown purview.

According to government data, 16 districts under three divisions — Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur — are now under a complete shutdown.

In Dhaka division, 11 out of 13 districts — with a high number of coronavirus cases reported according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) — are now under complete lockdown while only Dhaka and Faridpur districts are partially locked down.

In the capital, different areas under 38 out of 49 police stations are partly locked down, as per the report titled “Sara Bangladesher Lockdowner Chitra” (The Status of Lockdown All Over Bangladesh) published on corona.gov.bd.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, in a regular briefing on April 22, said there are Covid-19 infected people in 55 out of the 64 districts.

Of the total infected people, 73 percent patients are from Dhaka division, she said adding that the highest number of Covid-19 patients are in Dhaka city, and Narayanganj, Gazipur, Kishoreganj and Narsingdi districts.

To contain the spread of the virus, local administrations of the respective districts or upazilas announced lockdown separately following recommendations of coronavirus prevention committees.

However, on April 6, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered lockdown of the Covid-19 infection hotspots in the country to fight the spread of coronavirus.

On March 23, the government announced the closure of all public and private offices from March 26 to contain the spread of the virus.
