The BNP thinks it is unlikely that the ruling and opposition blocs will be able to reach an understanding over the next parliamentary elections.
“From the statements of the prime minister and other government officials, it seems that there is no chance of mutual understanding between ruling Awami League and BNP over the election,” BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday.
Talking to newsmen after a meeting with the party’s joint secretaries general and organising secretaries at the party’s headquarters at Nayapaltan, he urged the government to shun the path of conflicts by restoring the caretaker government system for holding the general election.
He also said that the country’s future is uncertain after October 25.
“The prime minister had said that the ninth parliament would be dissolved by October 25. And according to the constitution experts, there is no chance for doing so,” he told newsmen.
He however did not elaborate his comment.
While asked about the party’s next course of action, the BNP leader said it would be decided through meetings of BNP party’s standing committee members and the constituents of the 18-party alliance.
