The Bangladesh national team players along with HP Unit and selected members of U-19 World Cup squad are set to step back into competitive cricket through a three-team 50-over tournament on October 11, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced. All the matches will be played at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium and the tournament will conclude with the final on October 23rd.
While many of the national cricketers have returned to training amidst the pandemic, competitive cricket in the country had been halted since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament is expected to provide leading and upcoming cricketers the opportunity for some quality competitive cricket in the current situation.
“We’ve formed three teams for the tournament on October 11 and the conditions we’ve set is that every player from each team must play at least two matches,” BCB president Nazmul Hassan told reporters today.
“We feel the teams will be very balanced. We’re looking to televise the final of the tournament and before that all the matches will be available on Live stream and on radio,” Hassan informed.
While senior players were approached to take on the captaincy roles of each side, BCB president said that Mushfiqur Rahim ‘confirmed that he didn’t want to captain the side’.
