The authorities are apparently preparing a commando raid, if necessary, to free the hostages at a restaurant in Dhaka’s Gulshan while efforts to negotiate a peaceful end to the crisis are ongoing.
A Navy commando team has arrived in the area sealed off by security agencies.
Some army personnel have also been seen, bdnews24.com’s Chief Crime Correspondent Liton Haider said from the spot early on Saturday morning.
The security officials have not answered questions on whether a commando operation will be launched.
A source at the Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed bdnews24.com’s Senior Correspondent Sumon Mahbub that police chief AKM Shahidul Hoque and RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed are among top security officials who have sat with the government policymakers to make a decision on the matter.
