Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, said on Thursday that the rulers are unsettled by the “just, lawful, and constitutionally consistent remarks of the chief justice.”
“And, that is why concocted sedition cases are being filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia,” alleged the BNP leader during a media briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan central office.
Rizvi further alleged that the AL wants to “occupy Bangladesh after uprooting the nationalist force by arresting Khaleda and filing false cases against BNP leaders.”
Terming former chief justice Khairul Haque a “Mir Jafar” (betrayer), Rizvi said there was an effort to “occupy the judiciary using Khairul Haque and former Supreme Court judge, Shamsuddin Haider Manik, the villain in the judiciary.”
The BNP leader alleged ruling party activists drove out BNP-backed candidates from the polling stations at Thursday’s elections of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh.
He also condemned the sending of BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie to jail.
