A magistrate court in Sylhet on Tuesday framed charges against Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Badrul Alam in the case filed for his attempt to murder Sylhet Government Women’s College student Khadiza Akter Nargis.
The chief metropolitan magistrate, Saifuzzaman Hero, framed the charges after a hearing in the case.
The court’s additional public prosecutor, Mahfuzur Rahman, said the court framed charges against Badrul according to the section 307, 324 and 326 of Bangladesh Penal Code for his attempt to kill Khadiza and attacking her with sharp weapon that caused serious damages to her body.
Mahfuz said that Badrul’s lawyer had filed a bail petition with the court in the morning before he was produced in the court. ‘But the court rejected his bail prayer and set December 5 to start recording testimonies of the prosecution witnesses,’ Mahfuzur Rahman said.
On November 8, Shah Paran police sub-inspector and investigation officer in the case, Harun-Ur Rashid had filed the charge sheet with the court.
Badrul, a fourth year economics student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and senior assistant general secretary of the university unit of ruling Awami League student organisation BCL, hacked Khadiza, a second year bachelor student, on October 3 with a sharp weapon.
