Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Thursday said the option of a caretaker government can neither ensure a neutral election nor peace after the polls.
“Political peace has never been achieved by only having an elected government in the past. Even with elected governments, we see ineffective parliaments due to boycott from the beginning. There has been no parliamentary process and participatory planning in effect,” he said.
The minister was addressing a workshop on the overview of an incomplete feasibility study for the Saidabad WTP organised by Dwasa at a city hotel.
“The opposition leader has been demanding a neutral government although she never accepted previous elections under caretaker governments. And it must be noted that a non-party government doesn’t assure you the neutrality,” he added.
Inu stressed that it is not only neutral election, but also the eradication of militancy and religion-based politics that can ensure political peace in the country. “What if the election is held and followed by bomb attacks?” he questioned.
“Chaos will prevail in the country without a consensus (among political parties) to reject militancy,” he said.
