Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Wednesday party chairperson Khaleda Zia will announce programmes shortly after consulting party senior leaders and noted citizens.

After a meeting of BNP-led 20-party alliance with Khaleda in the chair at her Gulshan office, the party secretary general said the meeting unanimously has taken the decision to announce the programmes in a bid to mount pressure on the government to forge a national unity to combat terrorism.

“After the meeting, Madam [Khaleda] has sat with the party senior leaders and will sit with distinguished citizens tomorrow. Then, she will announce the programmes,” Fakhrul told waiting reporters Wednesday evening after emerging out of the meeting.

He said the meeting discussed the terrorist attack in Gulshan Holey Artisan restaurant and strongly condemned the attack.

The meeting also voiced concerns and extended its full support to Khaleda’s call for an anti-terrorism national unity.

“Awami League and 14-party for all practical purposes have denied the desire of people by rejecting Khaleda Zia’s call,” said the BNP secretary general.

Fakhrul alleged the AL and its allies are rather trying to divide the nation when it needs rock-solid unity.

Also former prime minister and 20-party opposition alliance chief, Khaleda Zia, sat in the meeting with top leaders of the alliance to discuss the country’s latest situation and work out its next course of action.
