Cairo Curfew Violation: 2 Bangladeshis held

‘Efforts on to have them released’

Two Bangladeshis, including a student, have been arrested by Egyptian police in Cairo, the capital of trouble-torn Egypt, on charge of violating curfew, said a Bangladesh Foreign Ministry official on Wednesday.

The arrestees are Nasiruddin, a worker and Belayet, a student, Director General (EP) of the Foreign Ministry M Shameem Ahsan told UNB.

Quoting the Bangladesh mission in Cairo, the official said, “After ascertaining, the mission informed that the embassy is trying to get them released soon.”

Shameem Ahsan also said another Bangladesh national, M Sayed, a worker, was injured on August 16. “He’s back home after treatment.”

The mission has also asked the Bangladesh nationals to stay in safe places and minimise their movements.

Egypt’s military-backed government continued a nationwide crackdown on Mohamed Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood that has led to the killing of hundreds of people over the last week.
