A businessman and his wife have been found shot dead at their Banani DOHS home in yet unclear circumstances.
Police suspect Abdur Rab committed suicide after shooting dead his wife ‘Rokhsana’ on Monday evening.
One of their sons said his parents were having differences as the business was flagging.
The couple is survived by three sons and a daughter. They lived at house no. 60/A on Road 5 at Old DOHS with their 9-year-old daughter.
Locals said the three brothers lived at their grandfather’s Gulshan house.
“My sister found my parents dead when she came in. The neighbours rushed over hearing her scream,” one of their sons, Nafis Ahmed, told reporters.
Neighbours said they had heard gunshots in the evening and notified police after finding the bodies.
RAB and police personnel went to the spot with CID’s forensic experts.
Police had cordoned off the building and were allowing no-one in.
Dhaka police’s Gulshan division’s Deputy Commissioner Lutful Kabir said they had found two empty cartridges on the scene. The firearm was licensed.
Nafis said his father was visibly frustrated due to a slump in business and lenders were pestering him for their money.
“There were troubles in our house over these issues,” he said. “It seems father committed suicide after shooting mother because of these issues.”
He said his father had shipping business.
Police said Rab’s friends had told them about the crisis he was in with his business.
Deputy Commissioner Kabir said a post-mortem examination would reveal the reason for the couple’s death.
After visiting the crime scene, RAB additional DG Ziaul Ahsan told bdnews24.com that prima facie evidence suggested the man had killed himself after murdering his wife.
“The woman is lying on the bed and the husband is lying on the floor nearby. There’s a weapon in the crime scene and the man has a bullet wound on his head.
“It looks as though he shot her and then killed himself,” he said.
