Bringing Khaleda to justice, not breaking BNP, says Inu

Observing that splitting a party is not the government’s duty or objective, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu on Tuesday said bringing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to justice does not mean breaking BNP.

“The present government believes in multiparty democracy. It’s not the government’s duty, motive or objective to split any party,” he said.

The Information Minister was addressing a function marking the distribution of ‘Best Journalist Awards-2014’ organised by Bangladesh Cable TV Viewers Forum at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

Noting that no party can be a safe haven for arson terrorists, war criminals and criminals, Inu said if any member of a party gets involved in any criminal activities, it is the government’s responsibility to bring them to justice. “If the government brings Khaleda Zia to justice for her involvement in arson and petrol terrorism, it doesn’t mean that it’s trying to split BNP,” he said.

He also said time has come to minus the BNP chief and its senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman from the party leadership to strengthen BNP.

Turning to electronic media policy, the minister said the National Broadcast Commission will be constituted very soon.

President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, DRU President Shakhawat Hossain Badshah and Managing Director of Golden World Farida Hossain, among others, spoke on the occasion.
