BNP standing committee member MK Anwar on Sunday said they want to engage in a formal dialogue with the government to resolve the crisis over the polls-time government as there is no environment to discuss it in parliament.
“There’s no environment to discuss the election-time government in parliament. There can be a debate in the House, but no discussion. Discussions should be held in a formal way,” he said.
Addressing a discussion, Anwar, however, said BNP will participate in the discussion if Awami League places a bill in parliament on restoration of the caretaker government through an understanding. They will also assist the ruling party in passing the bill, he added.
Jatiyatabadi Jubo Forum of Barisal division, in Dhaka, arranged the discussion at the National Press Club protesting the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.
Anwar said the government is making contradictory remarks about the polls-time government to mislead people. “Clear your (AL) position about the next general election.”
The BNP, MP said they returned to parliament and want to be there. “We hope the Speaker will give us scopes to stay on.”
Anwar alleged that the Anti Corruption Commission is subservient to the government as it is functioning at the behest of the government and its ministers. The ACC appealed to the court to bring back Tarique through Interpol following the directive of a minister, he said.
The former minister said the BNP senior vice chairman went to London for treatment with the permission of the court, not on parole. “It’s their leader (Hasina), not Tarique, had gone abroad on parole and is still on parole.”
He said Tarique will return home as a victorious, not through Interpol, as he is very popular among the country’s people.
Chaired by the organisation’s president, Iqbal Rashid Apu, the programme was addressed, among others, by BNP vice chairman Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal.
