BNP vice chairman Giasuddin sent to jail
A Chattogram court on Thursday sent Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) vice chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury to jail.
Chattogram’s senior judicial magistrate Joyanti Rani handed down the order after a hearing.
Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, who is a younger brother of executed war criminal and BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, was accused in several cases, including a ‘sedition’ case filed by a Chhatra Leadue leader with the Fatikchhari police station.
Chattogram district court inspector Bijan Kumar Barua told Prothom Alo that Giasuddin appeared before the court in the four cases in the morning.
The court then sent him to jail after rejecting his bail plea.
BNP officials said Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury bought three nomination forms for constiencies of Chattogram-2, Fatichhari and Chattogram-6 and Chattogram-7 to contest in the upcoming national elections, to be held on 30 December.
