The BNP’s Standing Committee tonight decided to enforce countrywide road and railway blockade for three days from November 4 to materialise its demand for holding the next general election under a non-party government.
The blockade will begin from 6:00am Monday.
The standing committee, the highest policy making body of the main opposition, came up with the agitation programme during an emergency meeting at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office. Khaleda chaired the meeting.
Two members of the standing committee who were present during the meeting confirmed the BNP’s decision to The Daily Star.
Emerging from the meeting, the two BNP senior leaders also said that the 18-party opposition combine will announce tougher agitation programme if the Election Commission declares polls schedule for 10th parliamentary election before forming a neutral polls-time government.
The agitation programme will be declared formally after Khaleda’s meeting with the chiefs of the 18-party tomorrow.
The opposition alliance will also hold protest rallies across the country on November 2 on the same demand.
