BNP to boycott district council polls, contest NCC polls

Bangladesh Nationalist Party Standing committee decided to boycott the upcoming elections to district councils observing that the elections would give results already prepared by the government.
The standing committee meeting presided over by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, however, decided to contest the election to Narayanganj City Corporation.
After the meeting, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir briefed journalists.
About district council elections, he said that the government managed 99.9 per cent of voters to cast vote for Awami League candidates and the polls would not be fruitful and bring no got to the people.
Mirza Fakhrul also said that the meeting decided to bring out protest rallies in all districts and thanas of the city areas on November 21 protesting at issuance of a warrant for the arrest of Khaleda Zia.
Khaleda sat at the meeting with the members of the party’s standing committee, the highest policymaking body of the party, to finalise proposals on reconstitution of the Election Commission.
Khaleda is scheduled to place the party’s thoughts and proposals on the commission at Westin hotel in Dhaka on Friday.
Standing committee members Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Jamiruddin Sircar, Moudud Ahmed, Mahbubur Rahman, Tariqul Islam, Rafiqul Islam Mia, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury were present.
