BNP has threatened to intensify its anti-government movement by launching blockade programme following shutdown, to force the government to reach an understanding with it.
BNP Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed issued the threat at a discussion at the National Press Club on Friday.
The Opposition already enforced two spells of nationwide 60-hour shutdown in the past weeks.
Moudud recalled Awami League’s agitation programme along with Jamaat-e-Islami demanding caretaker government system in 1994-95.
The Awami League was in the Opposition during the time and waged movements like shutdown and blockade to press for a caretaker government.
Moudud said this time they would follow the Awami League.
BNP has been demanding for a non-party government to supervise polls but Awami league opposed it and is moving forward to form an all-party interim government.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently called Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia and invited her to a dialogue, but the latter rejected the offer.
Both the parties have been pushing each other to initiate a dialogue.
Moudud urged the government to initiate a dialogue to ease the crisis.
He said the government had proposed the all-party government at a time when the Opposition was demanding a non-party administration.
The BNP leader said the government actually did not want the dialogue. “They are talking about dialogue to confuse the people.”
He alleged that the government was going to form a 14-Party alliance government in the name of an all-party government.
“The government is also staging a drama by talking about a poll-time interim government. There is no provision for an interim government in the Constitution.”
Moudud said the government attempt would not be successful. “The election will be held under a non-party government no matter whatever manoeuvre the incumbent government applies.”
