The major opposition BNP spends more than its known source of income which has increased this year compared to that of the last year.

A delegation of the BNP Monday submitted its income and expenditure statement to Election Commission Secretary Sirajul Islam.

“In 2014-15, the income of the party was Tk2,87,48,574 while the expenditure was Tk3,53,03,590, Asadul Karim Saheen, assistant office secretary of the party, told journalists.

Money was withdrawn from the bank account of the party to meet up the extra expense, he said.

The main source of income of the party comes from the monthly membership fee, of which a big chunk is spent on organisational activities, he said.

The BNP submitted its financial statement to the Election Commission as per the Representation of the People Order, a law book meant for maintaining transparency and accountability in politics.

As per the EC rules, registered political parties have to submit annual statements of their income and expenditure to play by the book in the political arena.
