Rizvi alleged that 30,000 modern 12-bore shotguns and 30,000 cartridges were bought, spending several thousand crores of taka, but, the government failed to purchase modern equipment to douse fire
BNP came down heavily upon the government, for its negligence, in modernising the fire service sector, despite loss of several lives in a series of deadly fire incidents in the country.
“The government, spent huge money, to purchase lethal weapons, to suppress opposition, but did nothing to upgrade the fire service” BNP‘s senior joint secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, said in a press conference, at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, on Saturday.
“Why can’t the government spend money to save people’s lives when it can launch a satellite into orbit,” he questioned.
“The government procured modern teargas shells, smoke grenades, sound grenades, rubber bullets, pepper spray, and many other costly and modern deadly weapons, and equipment, to suppress opposition and democratic struggles.” Rizvi said.
He also alleged, that 30,000 modern 12-bore shotguns and 30,000 cartridges were bought, spending several thousand crores of taka, but, the government failed to purchase modern equipment to douse fire.
“The law enforcers were provided with helicopters with an evil intention. But the government is least bothered about saving the lives of people.”
“The government didn’t take any step to equip the fire service with modern equipment to extinguish fire and rescue people. The fire service lacks sophisticated life-saving equipment and management.”
“The people of the country thinks that the Sheikh Hasina government is responsible for the loss of huge casualties in Banani’s FR Tower.”
He expressed deep shock at the loss of lives in the Banani fire and urged the government to compensate all the victims adequately.
He also expressed much shock at the loss due to the fire at the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) kitchen market in Gulshan, just two days after the deadly fire in the city’s Banani area.
