Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday refuted the allegation made by prime minister Sheikh Hasina over the issue of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s stepping onto Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka while paying tribute to language martyrs by placing wreath along with party leaders early Tuesday.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi showed some photographs to the journalists and said Khaleda Zia placed the wreath standing on the same place where mass people and different organisations stood for paying tributes.
‘She (the prime minister) is running the country based on lies,’ Rizvi said.
The BNP senior joint secretary general came up with the comments at a press briefing at the party’s central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday censured Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia for stepping onto the Central Shaheed Minar during placing wreath there.
‘How Khaleda Zia along with her party leaders stepped onto the main altar of the Shaheed Minar where the president, the prime minister, and the speaker placed wreaths….She might be insensible at midnight but what about the other leaders,’ Hasina said at a discussion at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in Dhaka.
The speech of the prime minister exposed that she is dead against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and the party, Rizvi said.
When asked over the verdict of a Canadian court that termed BNP a terrorist organisation, Rizvi said the verdict was given about a month ago (January 25) and suddenly an online portal of a former Chhatra League leader published it on Wednesday. Since then, the government-influenced news media kept publishing it.
‘We are yet to get the details of the verdict,’ he said.
‘They (AL government) have staged a drama with (wrong) information,’ Rizvi added.
At the same press briefing, BNP vice-chairman Hafizuddin Ahmed said if BNP is a terrorist organisation , according to the speech of Canadian court prosecution officer, then Awami League is clearly ahead of BNP.
