BNP rally begins at Suhrawardy Udyan

Several thousand leaders and activists of main opposition BNP gathered at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital Wednesday afternoon as the party is holding a rally for pressing home its various demands including restoration of caretaker government (CG) system.

The rally began around 3:00pm with BNP Vice-chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka in the chair.

Party sources said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will not join the rally.

Earlier in May, BNP has been denied twice for holding rally in the capital.

On May 12, the 18-party was scheduled to hold a rally in front of its Naya Paltan central office but it was moved to May 15 as the DMP denied them permission for it.

Later, the alliance also failed to hold the rally on May 15 as the authorities further denied it to stage the rally on security grounds.

On May 19, home minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir at a programme in Chittagong said all types of political activities including public meeting and rally will be remain banned for a month.

After this announcement, the 18-party alliance has been alleging that the government is not allowing them to hold any rally though the government did not issue any official order imposing any restriction on political activities including rallies and meetings.
