An effective force should be formed dissolving the RAB, Fakhrul says
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has alleged that the crime-busting elite force, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), has become institutionally corrupt.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting secretary general of the party, made the allegation in a press conference at party’s Nayapaltan headquarters on Thursday.
“It was published in different media that Tarek Sayeed gave a confessional statement and through this our apprehension came true. RAB institutionally involved with killing and abduction,” he said.
He added: “It [RAB] should be dissolved. An effective force should be formed dissolving the RAB so that they cannot be involved in any illegal activities.”
After exchanging views with the pro-BNP Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikkyo Parishad leaders at party’s Nayapaltan headquarters, the spokesperson of the party said: “We believe RAB has no usage and effectiveness. The time has come to dissolve it.”
When asked about the government’s plan to shift party founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Fakhul said they do not know anything regarding this. So he declined to comment.
