His comments came Tuesday at a press conference at the party chief’s Dhanmondi office when he thanked the Election Commission for a ‘successful’ election.
After the fifth phase of the 4th Upazila Council elections, polling has taken place for 459 out of 487 Upazilas.
Results have been announced from 454 Upazilas so far.
The Awami League now has 231 Upazila chairmen while the BNP has 161 after five rounds of staggered polls.
Accounting for Jamaat’s 35 and LDP’s one, the BNP-led 19-Party alliance now has a total of 197 chairmen.
Apart from these, three from the Jatiya party, eight from PCJSS, four from UPDF and 11 independent and other aspirants also won chairman posts after the fifth phase.
The BNP has cried foul over ‘huge rigging’ during the polls in which it had an initial lead after two phases of voting.
Quader described BNP’s claims as ‘lies’ and added: “The BNP leaders have resorted to lies to make the Upazila elections controversial.”
An unfair election would have tainted the government’s image, he said.
