The party spokesman said local people have also raised their fingers at a local lawmaker for orchestrating the heinous incident
BNP yesterday demanded a judicial probe into the Mirpur killings to identify the criminals involved with the violence and withdrawal of the cases filed against the Bihari people.
“Miscreants killed nine people by setting their house on fire on Shab-e-Barat night. One was killed following a bullet injury. This is a barbaric incident,” BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told newsmen at party headquarters after paying a visit to the Bihari Camp in Kalshi of Mirpur.
The party spokesman said local people have also raised their fingers at a local lawmaker for orchestrating the heinous incident.
“We believe that this illegal and immoral government has been orchestrating these incidents to divert people’s attention.”
Fakhrul said six cases were lodged centering the incident and thousands of unnamed Bihari were accused of these cases just to harass them.
“Six Biharis have already been arrested. We are demanding immediate release of the detained Biharis and withdrawal of the cases filed against them.”
The BNP leader alleged that the incident took place in the presence of the law enforcers and law enforcing agencies played the role of silent spectators during the violence.
“Locals also pointed their fingers to the local lawmaker, Ilyas Molla, and other Jubo League men who tried to grab their lands,” he said quoting local people.
