A local BNP leader was shot dead in the Chandipasha area of Atghoria upazila in Pabna yesterday.
The deceased, Md Adom Ali, 55, was a former member of Ekdanta Union Parishad. He was also serving as president of the Ward-1 unit of BNP in Ekdanta union, said Md Selim Hossain, organising secretary of the union unit.
Atghoria Police Station OC Md Nazmul Hossain said miscreants shot Adom on Chandipasha Road around 4:00pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
“We are investigating the incident from various angles. We cannot confirm the motive at this stage,” the OC added.
However, Selim said personal enmity may have been the reason behind the killing.
“Earlier, miscreants had attacked his son, and now he has been shot dead,” the BNP leader said, adding that the killing did not appear to stem from political rivalry.
The OC said Adom was named in several cases, including two murder cases.
The body has been sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
