In reply to question about Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s threat to wage a political movement after the Eid-ul Azha, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday requested the BNP leader not to create any situation in the name of movement that might cause sufferings to people.
She said the BNP leader made a political mistake and she herself has to pay for that mistake, and reiterated that her government cares little about BNP’s threat.
The prime minister was responding to a question from a reporter while exchanging Eid greetings with party leaders, workers, professionals, distinguished personalities, diplomats, judges and a cross-section of people at her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka in the morning marking the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
She said previously BNP-Jamaat’s movements were based on killings, burning the copies of holy Quran, uprooting of railway fishplates and destruction of public property.
Asserting that her government has the capability to face any challenge, Sheikh Hasina said she is not afraid of any conspiracy against her as reported in different news media recently.
“I don’t see any reason to be afraid of…had I been afraid of such conspiracies I wouldn’t have come to politics,” she added.
Sheikh Hasina also asserted that her government has the capability to face any kind of challenge against it.
Mentioning the report on a conspiracy hatched to topple the government through unfair means, she said it was the responsibility of the government to make sure such conspiracy cannot take place and affect the mass people.
“It’s our responsibility to look after this and we’re performing our duty,” the prime minister said adding that conspirators will craft their plots and the government will continue its works for taking the country forward.
Talking about the responsibility of the media, Hasina said whenever the media publish such a news item it should mention its sources as well. “It’s not right to confuse people by publishing unnecessary news.”
The premier expressed her satisfaction over the observance of Eid-ul Aza in a peaceful festive mood across the country.
She said the government has ensured a peaceful atmosphere in the country for the people of all faiths, including Muslims, Hindus and Christians, so that they can perform their all rituals and festivals like Eid, Puja, and celebrate Pahela Baishakh in a joyful manner.
The people of the country are now living in peace as her government has been able to enhance their earning capacity and purchasing power, the prime minister told the function.
She said the mass people now like to celebrate their Eid and Puja with their near and dear ones at their village homes as their financial capability has got strengthened.
“That’s why a growing pressure is seen on roads although necessary steps in this regard taken by the government to make the journey of homebound people comfortable,” she said.
Hasina thanked the people of the country for their all-out cooperation in celebrating various religious festivals peacefully maintaining communal harmony.
She also blamed it is BNP that had introduced terrorism and militancy in the country and established corruption, money laundering and anarchy when they were in power, while the Awami League-led government established the country as role model of development.
The prime minister first exchanged Eid greetings with party leaders, workers, professionals, distinguished personalities and a cross-section of people. Later, she exchanged greetings with judges of the Supreme Court and diplomats at the same venue.
