BNP deeply concerned over Khaleda’s deteriorating health condition

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday voiced deep concern over the life of their party chairperson Khaleda Zia as what he said her condition is now very ‘critical’ and she might ‘not recover’.

“Our leader’s (Khaleda’s) condition is very critical… she has been facing life risk, and there’s a possibility that she might not recover,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the comments while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at party founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave together with leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, marking its 41st founding anniversary.

Claiming that their chairperson was very fine when she went to jail, he said Khaleda is now so sick as she is unable to walk, rise from her bed and take food on her own.

Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia’s proper treatment is not possible at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) where she has been receiving treatment since April 1 last.

“That’s why we’ve been repeatedly saying she deserves to get bail. But the government has taken all measures so that she is not granted bail, and it’s deliberately blocking her bail,” he alleged.

The BNP leader said their chairperson will receive treatment as per her will if she is released on bail.

Fakhrul alleged that the government has turned Bangladesh into a failed state by ‘usurping’ state power. “The government is pushing Khaleda Zia towards death by keeping her in jail unfairly through snatching democracy.”

He said the country’s current overall situation suggests that the government has failed to deliver on every front as it has no ‘legitimacy and people’s mandate’ to govern the country.

The BNP leader urged people to get united to establish a democratic governing system in the country. “The current illegal government should quit immediately as holding a fair and credible election under a neutral administration and the Election Commission is the only way to overcome the current crisis.”

He said society has got ruined since many bad incidents are happening all over the country as the current government has been carrying out various ‘illegal acts’ to hang onto power.

He said the arrest of ruling party leaders in the recent anti-corruption drive has proved that the current government is a ‘corrupt’ one.
