BNP criticises EC for being ‘biased’

BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday quipped that the Election Commission is working independently carrying out the Prime Minister dictates.

“The Prime Minister has said the right thing…the Election Commission is working independently allowing the casting of fake votes, violence, stuffing ballots publicly and driving out BNP agents,” he said.

The BNP leader said this while addressing a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the city.

“Awami League has resorted to vote fraud in broad daylight in the fourth phase upazila polls. Awami League snatched ballots, cast fake votes,” he further alleged.

Criticising the Election Commission, the BNP leader said, “They (EC) were silent even after they were informed about the irregularities. It seemed that the government has taken an undertaking from them. So, they’re silent.”

Rizvi came down hard on Prime Minister Adviser HT Imam for his comment that the election held in a free and fair manner.

“HT Imam said that the election was held in a free and fair manner though violence took place during the election. The Prime Minister appointed some such advisers who are devoid of conscience and humanity.”

The BNP leader was also critical of Election Commissioner Abdul Mobarak saying, “The Election Commission is subservient to the government. They don’t bother about the country’s constitution.”

BNP leader Salauddin Ahmed, Kazi Asad, Abdul Latif Jony, Asadul Karim, were, among others, present at the press conference.
