Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday alleged that the main opposition BNP considers the ruling Awami league as an enemy instead of a political opponent.
“BNP thinks Awami League not an opponent, but an enemy. Celebrating birthday on the National Mourning is the naked manifestation of the political enmity,” he said.
The minister made the allegation while talking to reporters after visiting the progress of works under four-lane Nabinagar-Chandra Highway project here.
Criticising the opposition leader for celebrating on the August 15, the death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Quader said, “What would they feel if we celebrate a fake day on the death anniversary of Zaiur Rahman?”
About China’s call for a face-to-face dialogue between the two leaders (Hasina-Khaleda) to resolve the political stalemate, the AL presidium member said, “China and the US are our friends. They might have concern about our political crisis as they have bilateral interests with us. “
“But we should be careful whether there are any concern and panic among our people so that the foreigners don’t get concerned,” Quader added.
Suggesting BNP to behave responsibly, he said it is not the sole responsibility of the ruling party to create an environment for a dialogue to overcome the ongoing political crisis. “The opposition also should come forward and behave responsibly to this end.”
The minister said, “A reasonable path may be created for talks if we behave with each other like an opponent, not as enemy.”
