BNP on Monday called a daylong nationwide hartal, excluding Dhaka and Chittagong cities, for Wednesday in protest against the attack on its chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade at city’s Karwanbazar “in bid to kill her in a planned way”.
BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed announced the shutdown programme at an emergency press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
Moudud told journalists that the attack was made on Khaleda Zia’s motorcade during her election campaign in a deliberate attempt to kill her.
He said the party will also stage demonstrations across the country, except Dhaka and Chittagong cities, on Tuesday protesting the attack.
Khaleda’s motorcade came under an attack by miscreants during her electioneering in the city’s Karwanbazar area in favour of her party-backed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral candidate Tabith Awal, leaving three people injured.
