The Awami League has accused the Opposition of ‘betraying’ the people claiming that it has launched the agitation even after ‘assurances’ to join the polls.
Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif flayed the Opposition for calling the countrywide 48-hour blockade, rejecting the poll schedule.
“The Opposition has enough time to take part in the election. We are trying to convince them to participate in the election. Opposition had even assured us of joining the poll, but now they are cheating the people,” he claimed on Tuesday.

The Awami League leader is, however, hopeful BNP will eventually join the election.
He said nobody has the right to foil the election.
Hanif said the people had hailed the poll schedule. “Everything is normal today and people have defied the Opposition blockade.”
He warned the Opposition that the law enforcers would take action against anyone trying to create chaos or indulge in sabotage.
“If there is any allegation of instigating sabotage against any one, they will be brought to book.”
BNP announced the countrywide blockade hours after the Chief Election Commissioner declared election schedule on Monday.
Police arrested BNP’s Standing Committee Member ASM Hannan Shah before the blockade call.
Earlier on Nov 8, police arrested three BNP Standing Committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Rafiqul Islam Mia, BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo and special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas for their alleged ‘involvement’ in violence.
They are now in jail.
