Blasts at Chennai rail station kills 1

At least a woman has been killed and 10 others injured in two explosions on a train at the Chennai Central Railway Station in India on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Swati, 24.

The blasts took place in two sleeper coaches of the Guwahati-Bangalore Express around 7:15am, reports NDTV.

One of the bombs blasted under the seat of Swati, killing her on the spot.

Union Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said: “hey were minor intensity blasts. Experts from Delhi will be sent to investigate.”

Acoording to the report, the train was running nearly two hours behind schedule, which raised speculation that some other city may have been the target.

Meanwhile, a National Investigation Agency team is going to Chennai to join the investigations.

Besides, security across India is tight as it nears the end of voting for the national election.

The state government has announced an investigation and compensation of one lakh for the family of the woman who died.

Sources say a man who was found hiding in the train was questioned.
