Locals claim that the BGB members attacked them without any reason
The angry members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 29 Battalion locked into a clash with the locals following a road accident in which two BGB members were killed in the district’s Fulbari.
The deceased are BGB Jawans Md Al Amin, 19, and Md Rubel, 20.
Locals said a speedy-driven truck ran the motorbike of the BGB Jawans over in Bhimolpur area around 2pm, leaving them dead on the spot.
Following the incident, aggrieved BGB members attacked the locals, opened fire and vandalised more than 50 establishments and vehicles, leaving at least 12 people injured, four by bullets.
The locals put a barricade on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj Regional Highway, protesting the attack.
District Deputy Commissioner, Ahmed shamim Al Raji, and Police Super Ruhul Amin told the Dhaka Tribune that the local administration was trying to control the situation.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area under an executive magistrate to avert any untoward situation, they added.
BGB 29 Battalion Commander Lt Col Jahidur Rashid told the Dhaka Tribune: “The local criminals killed the BGB members while they were returning to the camp after conducting a drive against the smugglers.”
“We will file separate cases over the incident,” he said.
On the other hand, the locals claimed that the BGB members attacked them without any reason.
They said they will not remove the barricade until they get justice. The barricade was not removed from the highway till filing the news at 7:30pm.
