The government deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the capital since Monday evening to avoid any kind of anarchy during the 24-hour shutdown.
Deployment of the paramilitary forces will continued for 22 hours starting from 8:00pm Friday, sources to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police told The Daily Star.
The Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee and 23 other organisations enforced the 24-hour shutdown from 6:00pm Friday to resist the Hefazat-e Islam long march scheduled to be held on Saturday.
The radical Islamist group called the road march demanding punishment to the Shahbagh youths who have posted ‘offensive remarks against Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on different social media’.
Shahbagh youths have been demonstrating demanding death penalty to war criminals since a war crimes tribunal pronounced life sentence to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah.
