The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday penalised national players Al-Amin Hossain and Sabbir Rahman heavily for what it said ‘serious off-field disciplinary breaches’ during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. Barisal Bulls paceman Al-Amin was fined half of his BPL contract money while Sabbir, who is playing for Rajshahi Kings, was fined 30 per cent of his contract money for the offence. It means Al-Amin, an ‘A’ category player, whose contract is worth Tk 25 lakh, will have to pay a fine of Tk 12.5 lakh, the highest ever fine imposed on a player by the BCB for disciplinary problem. Icon player Sabbir, who has a contract of Tk 40 lakh, will have to pay a fine of Tk 12 lakh. The BCB did not specify the allegations against them, though insiders said the players faced with some personal disciplinary problems during BPL’s second phase in Chittagong. ‘The players have been reminded of their responsibility as national cricketers and have been warned that any repeat of similar acts of indiscretion in the future will result in harsher penalty,’ the BCB said in a statement. In another decision the BCB also fined Sabbir 15 per cent of his match fee for his on-field bust-up with Rangpur Riders’ Afghan cricketer Mohammad Shahzad. BCB banned Shahzad for two matches and also fined him 30 per cent of his match fee for the same incident. Shahzad nudged Sabbir with the bat as the latter was celebrating his dismissal to Mohammad Sami during the match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday. Shahzad apparently carried his anger after their heated exchange earlier in the same match. The BCB found Shahzad to have violated an article, which relates to conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game. ‘The player was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and suspended for an ensuing match of the tournament,’ the BCB said in a statement. Shahzad was also given four demerit points which was converted into two-match suspension. The BCB also fined Rangpur Riders’ captain Liam Dawson 30 per cent of his match fee for his part in the squabble.
