A Kishoreganj court Thursday granted seven-day remand to mastermind Sohel and his aide Idris in a case filed for burgling Tk16.40 crore from a Sonali Bank branch of the district.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Hamidul Islam of Judicial Court 1 of Kishoreganj granted the remand.
Earlier in the day, investigation officer of the case and Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Malek prayed 10-day remand for the accused.
Police identified Habibur Rahman alias Sohel as Yusuf Munshi and Idris Mia as Idris Munshi. Both are siblings.
The architect of the cinematic Kishoreganj bank burglary and his aide were arrested with the stolen money in the capital’s Shyampur Balurmath area on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Yusuf’s maternal father-in-law Motahar Hossain was also arrested from a nearby building named Pronoy Villa.
Later on Wednesday afternoon, they were handed over to Kishoreganj police.
On Monday, some 45 people, including 12 Sonali Bank officials, were held in Kishoreganj for interrogation in connection with the burglary.
On Sunday, the authorities of the Rathkhola branch of Sonali Bank in Kishoreganj district township noticed that Tk16.4 crore had been looted from its vault through an underground tunnel.
On the same day, eight policemen were suspended following the incident. These policemen were deployed in the barrack located in the basement of the branch to maintain the security of the vault.
Tk16.40 crore was looted from a vault of a Sonali Bank branch in Kishoreganj in the early hours of Sunday.
