Bangladeshi real estate businessman killed in New York

The deceased was identified as Zakir Khan, 44, the owner of Parkchester Real Estate New York, Inc, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

The landlord stabbed him with a knife in front of Zakir’s rented house in Bronx area, the part where a large number of Bangladeshi nationals live, around 6:30pm, the Bangla daily reports quoting the victim’s family members.

Zakir was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, it said.

The landlord, aged around 59, was later arrested.

Zakir had a dispute with his landlord over house rent, his neighbours said.

He hailed from Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet and immigrated to the US in 1992.

He was renowned in the community of real estate business and was also involved in different social activities in Bronx, the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City.

As the news of his death spread, hundreds of expatriate Bangladeshis thronged the hospital.

Zakir left behind his wife and three children.

His body was taken for autopsy but the decision regarding his burial was not fixed, according to the Prothom Alo report.
