Bangladeshi killed by compatriot in Jeddah

A Bangladeshi national was reportedly killed by a fellow-citizen in Jeddah on Friday after a heated argument over political issues back home.

 

“Yes, it’s confirmed. We’ve already sent one of our officials to look into the matter,” Consul General of Bangladesh Mission in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia M Nazmul Islam told UNB over phone.

 

The victim was identified as Deb Dulal Shutradhar, hailing from Feni, while the suspected killer as Abdus Salam of Cox’s Bazar.

 

Responding to a question, he said they are yet to get further details. “Things are still under investigation.”

 

Quoting witnesses, Nazmul Islam also said there has been no injury mark in the body. “We hope we’ll be able to get back to you with detailed information regarding the matter by tomorrow (Monday).”

 

He said the trouble began while they were watching the news bulletin of a Bangladeshi television channel at a shop in the morning and they suddenly got engaged in heated arguments.

 

They shop owner asked them to get out of his shop and it is suspected that the killing took place after that.

 

Nazmul Islam also said there might have been some arrests in connection with the killing. “However, I can’t tell you the details.”

 

Meanwhile, Jeddah police sent a forensics team to the site after receiving information that a body had been found in a south Jeddah neighbourhood.

 

Police cordoned off the area and gathered evidence and fingerprints and a search, and a probe team has launched an investigating into the incident.

 

After identifying the victim, they began questioning his friends and acquaintances, reports the Saudi Gazette.

 

It said police soon learned that the victim had been constantly arguing with a compatriot about political and sectarian issues in their country.

 

Police began an extensive search for the suspect and searched his possible hideouts.

 

The man was finally captured in a house in Al-Ghulail district. He confessed to the crime and said he had planned to hide from the authorities and later hand himself over as an illegal resident so he could be deported.
