Bangladesh has slipped two notches in the World Press Freedom Index as it has ranked 165th among 180 countries in the 2024 report – placing at the bottom among the South Asian nations, including Afghanistan.
The country scored 27.64 in this year’s index published on Friday by Reporters Sans Frontieres (Reporters Without Borders) on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day. Bangladesh scored 35.31 in 2023.
Bangladesh dropped 13 notches in less than a decade.
In 2021, Bangladesh’s position was 152nd, with a score of 50.29.
It ranked 151 in the 2020 index.
Nepal has held the highest place in South Asia, coming out at 74 globally, scoring 60.52.
