The visiting European Parliament delegation led by Jean Lambert said on Tuesday political parties who use terror should be banned.

Lambert of the Green Party or European Free Alliance, John Attard-Montalto from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, Salvador Sedo i Alabart from the European People’s Party, and Niccolò Rinaldi from the Alliance of Democrats and Liberals came to Dhaka on Sunday night.

They met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.

Their call came on a day when the investigating agency of the International Crimes Tribunal recommended prosecution of the Jamaat as an organisation for ‘crimes against humanity’ during the 1971 Liberation War.

The Prime Minister told the delegation Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) could make balloting transparent and acceptable.

The delegation assured her of assistance.

Hasina discussed Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry with the EP delegation.

The minimum wages of the garment workers has been increased to Tk 5300 from Tk 1600 in two phases, she said.

Steps have been taken to improve workplace safety and workers rights, Hasina claimed.
