A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected bail pleas and prayers for remand of BNP Joint Secretaries General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Amanullah Aman, and opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque in connection with two cases filed at the Paltan Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Keshob Roy Chowdhury passed the order after police produced 154 arrested BNP leaders and activists including Rizvi, Aman and Farroque before the judge at noon.
However, two courts remanded 151 leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-Party Alliance to police custody in the two cases.
Judge Keshob Roy Chowdhury granted the police three days to grill the BNP men in police custody in the first case filed under the Speedy Trial Act, while Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ali Hossain granted five days in the second case filed under the Explosives Act.
On Mar 12, two Dhaka courts sent Rizvi, Aman, Farroque and 151 other leaders and activists of the 18-Party Alliance to jail in the two cases.
Police raided the BNP central office on Mar 11 and arrested over 150 leaders and activists of the party, including its Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Vice Chairmen Sadeque Hossain Khoka and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Opposition Chief Whip Farroque and Joint Secretaries General Rizvi and Aman.
Fakhrul, Khoka and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury were released a day after their arrest.
During the raid, law enforcers had recovered 10 crude bombs from inside the BNP central office.
Earlier in the day, police sued some 200 leaders and activists of the alliance on charges of attacking law enforcers and blasting bombs during a rally in front of the BNP’s headquarters at Naya Paltan.
