Badrul watching Khadiza before attack: Court sources

Badrul 2
Badrul Alam, the reported attacker of Sylhet college girl Khadiza Akter, had been keeping an eye on her since morning. He had also sent a soft drink to her at her MC College examination centre, but Khadiza sent it back.

And on her way back home, Badrul confronted her and started hacking her with a machete, indiscriminately. Khadiza is now fighting for her life at Square Hospital in Dhaka.

Badrul made the account of the events during his confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) on Wednesday, court sources said.

The confession was recorded by the additional chief judicial magistrate of Sylhet, Umme Sharaban Tahura.

In his confession, the sources said, Bardrul claimed that he and Khadiza were in a relationship.

Badrul was said to have told the magistrate that Khadija had promised him that she would not engage with anyone else or even talk to any man other than him.

They were in regular contact, Badrul claimed.

However, he also admitted, around 8-10 months ago, Khadiza’s family came to know about the relationship. Afterwards, Khadiza stopped communicating with him, he said.

At around 10:00am on Monday, on 3 October, Badrul came to MC College and waited to see which gate Khadiza would enter from. Khadiza arrived at around 12:00pm and Badrul greeted her. Badrul pleaded with her not to end their relationship, the court sources said.

But Khadiza rejected him directly, he said. She then went into the exam hall. Badrul bought a soft drink and mineral water bottle and sent it to her through a college peon. But she refused it and sent it back.

After she rejected the drinks, Badrul went to the Amberkhana area of the city and bought a machete. He came back to the college and confronted Khadiza once she came out after giving her exam. He once again pleaded her not to end the relationship, but she continued to reject.

Enraged, Badrul started hacking Khadiza with the machete all over her head, arms and body.

He was caught by the police when he tried to flee, said Badrul in the confession.
