Yesterday, the official Twitter account of @albd1971 tweeted that a total of 267 vehicles were set on fire between the 28th of October and the 8th of December by Activists. The tweet also gave a breakdown of the vehicles in the photo card — 62 buses, 44 trucks, 23 covered vans, eight motorcycles, and 26 other motorized vehicles — and if one adds those, the tally comes to 163 and not 267 as purported by the tweet. Where are those 104 vehicles that supposedly fell prey to arson?
This isn’t the only calculation that the Awami League has botched. On the 22nd of November, it tweeted that between the 28th of October and the 22nd of November, the BNP-Jamaat activists set ablaze 187 vehicles. There was also a breakdown of the vehicles — 120 buses, 26 trucks, 13 covered vans, eight motorcycles, two cars, three microbuses, three autorickshaws, two trains, one fire service truck, one police van, and one ambulance. Once again, if you add those, the tally is not 187.

Were the 120 buses set on fire or not in the 26 days starting from the 28th of October? If yes, logic dictates that the tally on the 8th of December would be more, but why did the tally for buses almost halve? It surely can’t be both. Did the Awami League people fail in basic arithmetic in school or they have lost the plot?
