Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul described the July uprising as a continuation of the spirit of the Liberation War, highlighting the freedom fighters’ profound love for the country.
Speaking to reporters at the Martyr Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur on Saturday, Dr Nazrul paid tribute to the intellectuals who were martyred during the Liberation War.
“In the July uprising, students transcended personal aspirations to fight for democracy, human rights, and a society free from discrimination. Today, as we remember the martyred intellectuals, we reflect on their sacrifices and values,” he said.
Dr Nazrul added: “Despite the immense sacrifices of many in 1971, we have failed to realize the dream of an ideal Bangladesh. This failure stems from a particular mindset and the shortcomings of leadership. We must ensure that such failures are not repeated. The sacrifices of the youth demand that we seize this second chance to build the nation we envisioned.”
His comments came as part of nationwide observances honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country’s freedom and principles.
