Minister without portfolio Syed Ashraful Islam, who was recently relieved of his duties as LGRD minister, was absent in the regular cabinet meeting on Monday.
The meeting was held at Prime Minister’s Office chaired by the premier.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed the reporters at the secretariat.
When asked whether Syed Ashraf was invited for the meeting, the cabinet secretary said: “He [Ashraf] did not attend today’s meeting that doesn’t mean he will remain absent in future.”
In response to a query about the rumour on more reshuffle in the cabinet before Eid, he said: “If something like that happens, we will let you know.”
On July 7, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain was given additional charge of the LGRD ministry replacing Syed Ashraful Islam.
Syed Ashraful, son of first acting President of Bangladesh Syed Nazrul Islam in 1971, was appointed as LGRD minister twice in 2009 and 2014.
