Artworks of Rokeya Sultana and Kanak Chanpa Chakma, two eminent women artists from Bangladesh, have been selected for exhibition at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova will inaugurate the exhibition on March 7 and will remain open to public till March 21.
The exhibition is being organized jointly by UNESCO and its member states to celebrate the International Women’s Day on March 8, said a Foreign Ministry media release issued on Saturday.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for Women and Girls”.
The artworks of Rokeya Sultana and Kanak Chanpa Chakma have been selected to represent the Asia-Pacific region.
Their artworks will be displayed alongside artworks of seven other renowned artists from Ajerbaijan, Bolivia, Benin, Bulgaria, Canada, Peru and Russia.
“This will help project Bangladeshi culture at the global level”, said Ambassador Shahidul Islam, Bangladesh Permanent Representative to UNESCO.
“It will also constitute a symbolic representation of Bangladesh’s achievement in meeting MDGs in respect of women empowerment and girls’ education.”
