Arrest warrant issued against Dr Yunus
A labour court in Dhaka today issued an arrest warrant against Grameen Bank founder Dr Muhammad Yunus in three cases filed over sacking of three employees of Grameen Communications, the IT wing of Grameen Bank.
Labour court-3 chairman Rahibul Islam passed the order as Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus did not appear before the court today despite an earlier summon order by the court.
On July 3, three employees of Grameen Communications filed three separate cases against its chairman Dr Yunus and two others with Dhaka 3rd Labour Court as they were sacked from the company for their role in formation of trade union at their workplace.
The two others accused are Managing Director Naznin Sultana and Deputy General Manager Khandaker Abu Abedin.
On July 10, the court asked the trio to appear before it on October 8 (yesterday).
Today, the court issued an arrest warrant against Dr Muhammad Yunus as he did not appear before the court.
The court also granted bail to two others — Naznin Sultana and Khandaker Abu Abedin – as they appeared before the court today and sought bail.
